Sabin Penea is certainly one of the most versatile and curious violinists of his generation, a fact demonstrated by his varied activity, from the complete recording of Dimitrie Cantemir’s creation together with his colleagues from the early music ensemble Anton Pann, where he is a member of 8 years and his activity as violinist 1 in the Solartis Quartet, up to the 2 festivals he coordinates as artistic director, namely JazzUp Sea, already held for 5 years at Constanta and JazzUp Peak, already at the 2nd edition in Brasov, or even his tenure a bass-guitarist for the iconic rock band Timpuri Noi, with whom he released the album Deschide-ti Mintea in 2012. At the same time, he is a laureate of the Kreutzer, Northern String Competition, Mimas Island Festival, Marie Cantagrill Competition and Plovdiv International Chamber Music Competition, he has worked in orchestras such as Wurth Philharmonie and Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe, he has performed concerts as a soloist in Bucharest with the Orchestra of Camera Radio and in Cluj with the Young Famous Orchestra, participated in festivals in Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Turkey, China and Morocco with musicians such as Gilles Apap, Alexander Hulshoff, Maximilian Hornung, Monika Leskovar, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Alexander Buzlov, Diana Ketler, Jan-Erik Gusse Gustaffson, Razvan Popovici, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin, Sharon Kam, Deria Turkan, Emmanuel Hovhannisyan, Vincent Segal, Hyung-ki Joo. Born in Tulcea, he began his studies at the local art high school under the guidance of Prof. Maria Lupu, continuing at the G. Enescu Music High School in Bucharest with Prof. Carmen Runceanu, then becoming a violinist and graduate of the master’s courses of the University of Music Bucharest in the class of Prof. Univ. Dr. Gabriel Croitoru. He continued his studies under the guidance of Prof. Silvia Marcovici in Graz, Austria, then in Freiburg im Breisgau, under the guidance of Prof. Sebastian Hamann, where he completed his second master’s degree and where he is currently studying instrumental soloism, also under the guidance of Prof. Sebastian Hamann. Currently, Sabin plays a Nicolo Gagliano instrument from 1760, provided by the Landessammlung Baden-Württemberg
